What Lies Beneath is a story of Norman and Claire Spencer. One year ago Claire was in a car crash, wrapping her car around a tree going 80. Now it’s a year later and Claire is starting to see someone else living in the house besides her and Norman. Pictures begin to fall, she hears things, sees things. Is this because Claire’s daughter just went off to college? Is something wrong with Claire? Or is there some other presence living in the house with them?
Before I saw this people were telling me this is a very scary horror movie. So I decided to check it out. What I found was that it had a good story, good characters, Harrison Ford and Michelle Pheiffer really bring their characters alive. But what this movie lacks is the scares. Sure it is probably scary for people just getting into horror, but for people like you and I who have seen plenty of horror films you more then likely won’t find it scary. The start of the movie we see that Claire is a nosey neighbor spying on her neighbors next door, thinking he killed his wife. Well for anyone who has seen the trailer you would know that’s not the case. Because the ghost in the house has to do with Norman’s past. Now I don’t want to tell you everything about this film because I don’t want to give away what little the trailer didn’t give away. But anyways, this is a nice little movie that is different then the other recent movies that have came out. I do recommend this one, but for horror fans who have seen a lot of horror movies, then you probably won’t find it scary. It’s a two hour and ten minute film and it can get slow at times. For anyone who is just starting out with the horror genre, this is a good one to get you started. It is an entertaining movie, and I really did like the ending. But I give it a 4 out of 10.
