Hidden in a cemetery lies barrels that are waiting to be discovered. Inside these barrels are something that will destroy this small town. As two young boys discover the barrels in the cemetery they open them not knowing what they are doing. Now, this gas comes out of the barrels and soon the boys and everyone else that was in the cemetery at the time have been infected with this virus. As they get sicker and sicker, the dead rise from their graves and invade the town in search for brains.
The movie opens with us being introduced to the two boys who will open the containers. They are trying to get this other boy to join their gang by staying in a cemetery over night. While they lock the boy in one of the crypts, they go searching around. Meanwhile, two grave-robbers enter the crypt where the boy has been locked in. These two are very familiar since they are played by the two guys who opened the containers in the original film. They scare away the boy that was locked in there while the other two boys open up a container and release gas into the cemetery. Soon, all four of the living people in the cemetery are infected and the dead are attacking everyone they come across.
Many people hate this film and I can see why. It doesn’t even come close to being as good as the original. The jokes in this one seem to be forced and are often not that funny, and there isn’t that much gore. I saw this movie years ago and I remember that I liked it, but I couldn’t remember much of the movie. So I decided to watch it again and I still liked it. It wasn’t nearly as good as the original, but it was enjoyable. It doesn’t get boring and it is a good way to get rid of an hour and a half of your day. This is the weaker entry of the three Return of the Living Dead films, but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. If the video store is sold out of parts 1 and 3, then I recommend you renting this one for a late night. I give it a 6 out of 10
