Will Graham is the man responsible for getting the cannibalistic serial killer, Hannibal Lecter, off of the street. While capturing Hannibal, he suffered from a wound that could have taken his life. Now there is a new serial killer loose and the press call him the Tooth Fairy. With the police baffled, they call the one man who can think like a serial killer to help capture the Tooth Fairy, that is Will Graham. Will takes the job to help capture The Tooth Fairy, but now he must do something he never wanted to do again, and that is talk with Hannibal Lecter and get Hannibal’s advice as to how to catch this brutal serial killer.
The movie opens with a play that Hannibal Lecter is attending. Later that night he has some guests over where he serves a meal with some “special” ingredients. After his guests leave, he gets a visit from Will Graham. Hannibal has been helping Will search for a killer who has been eating his victims. That night, Will discovers that Hannibal is the killer and he almost gets himself killed to catch Hannibal. It has been a few years now and Hannibal has remained in a maximum security prison. Will soon gets a phone call from an old friend wanting him to come and take a look at a crime scene so that they can try and find the killer known as The Tooth Fairy. Will at first decides to just take a look at the crime scene, but when he starts to discover more and more and his family becomes threatened, Will decides to help find the Tooth Fairy.
I really did enjoy Manhunter, and when I first heard they were remaking it, I thought that the only reason for doing so was to place Anthony Hopkins in as the role of Hannibal Lecter since Brian Cox originally played him. In this film, they featured more of Hannibal than Manhunter did and it made it resemble Silence of the Lambs a bit more. I did find this film enjoyable and probably a step above the third film, Hannibal. They did change up some things, but still remained true to the original film. I do recommend at least a rental on this flick. I give it a 7 out of 10.
