Maniac is about a guy named Frank Zito. He scalps his victims and uses the scalps to decorate his mannequins. Then he meets a young lady named Anna, who he likes. You begin to think that he has turned normal but that doesn’t last too long before things fall apart.
This is a different kind of film. Not your average horror film. This film shows us the story of Frank Zito who is a complete psychopath. The first 45 minutes are completely insane. We see Frank kills victim after victim, then we see him sitting in his apartment talking to himself and his mannequins. Acting as if they are alive. Then around 45 minutes into the movie Frank meets Anna, who he starts to like. But what I didn’t quite figure out was why she would let him into her home. She had never met him before, he just knocks on the door and says, “Hey you took my picture in the park yesterday.” And they start to date. Well, that doesn’t stop as he continues to kill. One of my favorite scenes in the movie isn’t one of the goriest, but it’s the most suspenseful. When he chases a girl through a subway and into the bathroom. It was an excellent scene. Another scene that is great for gorehounds is the shotgun scene where a guy, played by none other then Tom Savini, gets his head shot off. The movie is a very disturbing movie. Not really scary, but more disturbing. It’s not a slasher, it’s a film that shows us what the life of a killer is like and how disturbed someone like him can be. The ending is great. Very disturbing and disgusting. So do I recommend this film? Of course I do, but it’s not for everyone. This is for gorehounds only. I give this a 7 out of 10.
