Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2Michael Ironside, Wendy Lyon, Justin Louis, Lisa Schrage

1987, 97 minutes

Plot: This movie focuses around an accident that happened at the Hamilton High prom of 1957. What happened seemed innocent enough, as it involved cheating (relationships), but ended in murder. Although this murder was accidental, the ghost of the victim still lived on, and came back for revenge.

In this movie, the lead character, Vicki is possessed by the spirit of the 1957 prom queen, Mary Lou. This leads her into delusional visions, attacks on her friends, and the loss of her sanity. This time Mary Lou is back to get anyone who screwed her over in the past, and to most importantly, get her prom queen crown. The one she had been longing for, whilst she was rotting in her grave. Will she get her crown? Will the 1987 Hamilton High prom be screwed? Or will some unknown heroes save the day?

Review: This movie looked promising when I saw it for sale. It seemed like it was good old 80’s horror cheese. The case was kind of cool looking, so I thought that it had promise. It kind of does, but it isn’t very great. The makeup effects are usual 80’s cheese, but the acting and storyline could have used a bit of work. Some things don’t make sense, and a few scenes tend to drag on, and on. This makes the viewer become bored, and takes away from the overall effect and quality of this movie. These are some of the problems with it.

The acting is pretty good in it, but the actors don’t do a good enough job to portray their characters. You never really seem to get inside any of their heads, and you don’t develop a kind of sympathy for the characters, like you do in some other horror movies. The storyline is pretty basic and straightforward, and should have been more complex, in order to make the movie more interesting. These are definitely the 2 biggest flaws.

Overall: For an old 80’s cheesy horror movie, this is okay. It’s worth watching if you have the time to spare. If not, then don’t worry about it. You’re really not missing too much here, except something to waste some time with. Overall, it’s kind of lacking.

Rental or Purchase: Rental, unless you find it for sale cheap.
