“Demons are among us” is what a man tells his two children. One night a man, played by Bill Paxton, receives a vision from God, and God tells him that his family has been chosen. The end of the world is coming and demons are living as humans. They don’t look like demons, they don’t sound like demons. God has given this man a special power to where when he touches them, he exposes the demons for what they really are. As the man tells his two children about what’s going on, he explains that there will be three weapons sent to fight these demons. One is an axe named Otis, which he uses to kill the demons. Now it is up to this family to destroy the demons before the end of the world comes.
The movie opens with Fenton Meiks getting a phone call from his brother Adam, who tells Fenton that demons are taking over the world. After he hangs up the phone, Adam kills himself. After this happens Fenton decides to tell the police all about the God’s Hands killer. Fenton says that he just can’t live with what he knows anymore. He goes to the police station and gives Agent Wesley Doyle all the information about the God’s Hands killer. He tells Agent Doyle that his brother is the God’s Hands killer. He then let’s Agent Doyle in on his past when his father had the vision about the demons and how he didn’t believe him. He tells him how his father would bring home the people he accused of being demons and he would bring them into the shed and show the two boys what the demons truly were. All of these scenes are mostly shown through flashbacks.
I really enjoyed this movie. It starts out very nicely and keeps your attention all the way through. It doesn’t have an extremely fast pace, but it moves along quite nicely. The main thing I liked about this movie was the story. It doesn’t have tons of gore and it doesn’t need it. This movie was very well acted, especially by Mathew McConaughey and Bill Paxton. This movie just keeps you wanting to find out more and more as you go along and it builds you up to the very shocking ending. I am surprised this film didn’t last long in theaters. I really wanted to see it in theaters, but it was gone before I had the chance to. Well this is sure to be a hit with the video release. I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
