The ever growing popularity of zombie related media and entertainments seems to know no bounds in recent years and the AMC (American Movie Classics) television channel has decided to embrace the craze. The channel intended to bring audiences a new TV series called The Walking Dead which is based on a popular series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman which has the same title. While the series itself was actually first optioned by NBC a few years back, after a rather high stakes bidding war, AMC is the channel that came away with the property. The series is set to be directed by Mr. Frank Darabont, known for his work on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 in the mid 90’s and also Stephen King’s novella turned movie, The Mist. Darabont will also be writer and producer for the series which follows a band of survivors that are working to make it through a post apocalyptic landscape in which they are regularly beset upon by rabid zombies.

Horror fans and fans of the comic alike have expressed excitement over the coming series since AMC has something of a history of delivering good horror content in recent years. Since it is also the same channel that the incredibly popular series Mad Men, a serial involving the men of the advertising world in the mid 1900’s, as well as Breaking Bad, it is expected that The Walking Dead will have the same high standard of quality that has become a hall mark of AMC series. Zombie fans in particular have long awaited a TV series since the majority of zombie based media is currently in the form of feature length films of video games. Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the show’s first airings and the web is abuzz with anticipation of the initial episode.
